and funky documentary that explores this unique ritual with archival footage
contemporary interviews and lots of great moments all set against the brassy
backbeat of Dejan's Olympia Brass Band. Learn how the term "JAZZ FUNERAL"
came to be and find out what it really means to "cut the body loose"
and dance in the "second line." This is the only documentary of its
kind devoted exclusively to this fascinating tradition.
Hosted
narrated and co-produced by Milton Batiste lead trumpet player and manager of
Dejan's Olympia Brass Band one of the oldest brass bands in the U.S. The
50 minute program was written produced and directed by David M. Jones who has
worked on more than a dozen broadcast documentaries about Louisiana music and
culture. It was produced through the facilities of WYES-TV in New Orleans where
it was aired during their August 1995 membership drive and proved to be their
most effective fund raising show to date.
